Ultimately I gave it 5 stars because it’s a damn good read. This may in fact enable one to understand how things have changed, and perhaps lead one to the conclusion that things have not changed as much below the surface as one might believe. It goes without saying that some historical accuracy as well as violence is muted. Buchan doesn’t change the western front he actually only refers to it, rather than showing it usbut posits a German-Ottoman conspiracy to set up a Muslim messiah not jonn spoiler; occurs early on.
